Ferrari has released the first official video for its new 488 ‘GTO’ ahead of the vehicle’s debut next month.

The 488 GTO will serve as the successor to the track-focused 458 Speciale and follows other hardcore versions of Ferrari’s mid-engine V8 cars, such as the 430 Scuderia and 360 Challenge Stradale. The ‘GTO’ moniker, which has appeared on Ferrari models like the 599 GTO and 288 GTO, is only a rumor and has yet to be confirmed by Ferrari.

No matter what it will be called, the hardcore 488 is expected to produce around 700 hp from its 488 Challenge-derived 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The supercar’s revised styling was revealed in a leaked image last month and should provide more downforce than the standard 488’s bodywork. We’re also expecting to see the latest in Ferrari tech, such as the most recent version of Ferrari’s slide slip angle drift control software, and maybe even its rear-wheel steering system.

The 488 GTO will be much lighter than the standard 488 thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber in the bodywork and interior. Even the 20-inch wheels, which will be wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, will be made from carbon fiber.

The Ferrari 488 GTO will make its official debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March. Stay tuned for more info!
