The Acura NSX will reportedly drop its top later this year.

According to German publication Autobild, the Acura NSX Roadster will bow before the end of this year, adding a new variant to the hybrid sports car’s lineup. Before the production coupe model even debut, Acura toyed around with the idea of an NSX Roadster in 2012. At the time, a one-off project was made for the Avengers movie and the Japanese automaker stressed that it was “created specifically for the film.”

Expect the convertible version of the Acura NSX to share its powertrain with the coupe. The automaker would have to revise the rear decklid to accommodate the top and some other structural changes would need to be done to increase rigidity.

While an NSX Roadster is exciting and all, we’d really rather see an NSX Type R make its debut. But who knows? Maybe we’ll get both!
