Audi Hasn't Completely Ruled Out RS Wagons for the US

Wagons for the most part don’t sell well in the U.S., but Audi is still looking into the possibility of bringing its hot RS Avant wagons stateside.

Speaking to Motor Trend, Audi of America’s vice president of product management confirmed the German automaker hasn’t ruled out the idea of selling RS Avants in the U.S. But for now, it’s just focused on the Sportback models. “We always look at potential new opportunities in the market,” said Filip Brabec. “It’s a niche to explore. We keep holding discussions. Keep writing us letters.”

Meanwhile, the new head of Audi Sport worldwide, Michael Renz, acknowledged the RS6 and RS4 Avants do well in Europe, but that may not be the case in America. He does, however, hear the demand from U.S. enthusiasts but wouldn’t commit to anything. He also didn’t rule anything out either.

Although Audi is currently focused on launching the Sportback models in the U.S., the automaker is well aware that a buyer interested in a Sportback isn’t necessarily the same as one shopping for a wagon, at least in Europe. “The Sportback offers more image than the Avant. There is a clear hierarchy,” Renz added. “The Sportback is for young families who are looking for a sporty, fashion-oriented car with functionality that they can put the kids in. The Avant customer is a little bit older, more entrepreneurial.”

But if you’re really interested in sporting an RS Avant in America, better start writing a letter to Audi, whatever those are.
