Honda's Newest Hybrid Enters Production in Indiana

Production of the all-new 2019 Honda Insight has begun in the U.S.

Set to launch at Honda dealerships nationwide early this summer, the 2019 Honda Insight is the fifth electrified Honda model launched in the past 18 months, following the Clarity Series and the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid. The Japanese automaker also announced a $61.5-million investment in Indiana and Ohio towards production of its latest electrified vehicles. The 2019 Honda Insight is produced at Honda’s plant in Greensburg, Indiana for the North American market, while three plants in Ohio will support production for the Insight’s powertrain components.

The automaker has invested $32.5-million to support production of the Insight at HMIN. Meanwhile, Honda Transmission Manufacturing of America in Russells Point, Ohio, has invested $29-million for production of the Insight’s twin-electric motor unit. The sedan’s battery pack is assembled at the Marysville, Ohio plant, and the 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine is built at Honda’s Anna, Ohio engine plant.

To support production of the 2019 Honda Insight in Indiana, a new 19,200 square-foot building expansion was done to accommodate in-house subassembly of the vehicle’s front-end module. This marks the first time the Indiana plant is subassembling the front-end module in-house.

Sharing the assembly line with the new Insight are the Civic and CR-V models.
