Jeep Scrambler Pickup Shows Its Tailgate in New Spy Photos
The Jeep Wrangler JK has now officially ended production to make room for the next big thing from Jeep: a pickup truck believed to be named the Scrambler.
This latest set of spy photos reveals the production-ready tailgate on the back of the truck, which up until now has been covered by heavy camouflage. Much like the Ram 1500, a bulge near the top of the tailgate acts as a wing to help with aerodynamics.
Tooling is currently being switched over at the Toledo, OH plant to support Scrambler production, with the truck expected to launch in early 2019.
When it launches, the Scrambler will share its powertrains with the new Wrangler JL, which means a 285-horsepower V6 will be the base option while a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque is the upgraded choice. A 3.0-liter diesel will be joining the Wrangler’s ranks in 2019, a choice that could also find its way into the truck.

Besides the exposed tailgate, these spy photos don’t reveal much, besides the overall boxy shape of the Scrambler. So far, only four-door models have been seen testing and it remains to be seen whether or not a two-door version of the truck will even be offered. Considering the new 2019 Ram 1500 doesn’t even have a regular cab two-door version yet, it doesn’t seem likely for the smaller Jeep truck.
Watch for the Wrangler pickup to debut sometime before the end of 2018.
