This New One-Off Ferrari is Pretty Much Perfect

Ferrari has just unveiled its latest one-off creation, and if you ask us, it’s by far the best one the automaker’s in-house design studio has penned.

The Ferrari SP38, as it’s being referred to, is based on the chassis and running gear of the 488 GTB. The car is intended to reflect “the specific vision of a client with a deep passion for racing,” the Italian brand says, while also “expressing all the beauty and innovation inherent in Ferrari’s road cars.”

It features the same 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 as the 488 GTB – a power unit that inspired the design team to subtly reference the legendary F40 in the vehicle’s design. There’s some 308 GTB inspiration in the slim front bumper lip as well, and the carbon fiber lower sills also reference other Ferraris of yore. Another standout feature is the three-slat engine cover, which flows to meet a neatly integrated rear wing.

Ferrari has yet to provide interior photos of the car, but it promises “a full Tailor Made cabin trim,” that’s unlike any of its production cars.

The Ferrari SP38 will be put on public display for the first time at the upcoming Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Saturday May 26th.

Blah, blah, blah... None of us will ever own/drive/even see it, so what?

I can't see what the author is so impressed with. This car looks like a wanna-be Ford GT. It doesn't have originality and that's what Ferrari has lacked for several years now. They just don't have original exciting designs anymore. While other great carmakers like McLaren and Aston Martin are making better and better cars, Ferrari has seemed to fall behind and are just trying to follow everybody else's ideas and designs.
