2018 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Price Reduced, Range Improved

The Sonata Plug-In also sees an ever so slight bump in electric range from an estimated 27 miles to 28 miles and a total driving range of an EPA-estimated 600 miles. The base model starts at $34,135, which includes an $885 freight charge.

Those shopping the base model will also see an upgraded list of available equipment including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, wireless charging for mobile devices, and a heated steering wheel.

Those who opt for the Sonata Plug-In Limited will find a $250 price increase, but the PHEV boasts greater value than the previous model year. Now standard on the car is automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, LED headlights, lane keep assist, driver attention alert, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, and a second-row USB port. The Sonata Plug-In Limited starts at $39,735.

Both variants feature a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 50-kilowatt electric motor to make a combined output of 202 horsepower. A six-speed automatic handles shifting duties. A 9.8 kwh lithium-ion polymer battery provides juice for the electric motor.

Hyundai has also given the plug-in hybrid a refresh with a sharper front fascia, new rear decklid, blue bezel headlights, and clear taillights to set the car apart from the standard gasoline-powered sedan. Inside, the center stack receives a slight nip-tuck and a new leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel is in place.

The 2018 Sonata Plug-In is available now and also qualifies for a $4,919 federal tax credit and other local incentives.
