Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Confirmed

The arrival of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has been confirmed by the Italian automaker.

Prototypes for a wild-looking Aventador have been caught out and about numerous times this year, sparking rumors that Lamborghini had a new variant on the works called the ‘SV Jota’. The automaker confirmed the rumors in a social media post today that read “A fantastic debut for a fantastic super sports car! Lamborghini Aventador SVJ meets the legendary Nuerburgring Nordschleife.” The post also advised fans to keep a close eye on the automaker’s YouTube and Instagram pages in coming days – likely hinting that the vehicle has set a new production car lap record at the daunting 12.9-mile circuit.

Official details on the Aventador SVJ are not yet available, but it’s clear it will be producing absolutely massive amounts of downforce thanks to a huge rear wing, deep front splitter and prominent rear diffuser. The 6.5-liter V12 will also get more power, possibly in the 770 hp to 800 hp range, and the vehicle should be much lighter than the Aventador S. We wouldn’t be surprised if the vehicle also had active aerodynamics similar to the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and the rear-wheel steering system from the Aventador S. Combined, these improvements should help the Aventador SVJ smash the current record time of 6:47.25, which was set by Lars Kern in the 991 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

While Lamborghini hasn’t said the ‘J’ in ‘SVJ’ stands for Jota, it’s highly likely. The ‘Jota’ name was first applied to a Miura that was built to adhere to the FIA’s ‘Appendix J’ regulations, with ‘jota’ being the Spanish pronunciation of the letter ‘J’.
