McLaren Senna Filmed on the Nurburgring – is It Going for a Lap Record?
The McLaren Senna has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife – a potential sign that the supercar is looking to topple the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ’s recently set record of 6:44.97.
Footage shows the Senna parked in a lot before McLaren moves it to a hoist in a nearby garage. The pre-production prototype is then seen making some low speed passes on the track, first by itself and then with a Porsche 911 in tow.
While this video fails to show the Senna pushing hard at the ‘Ring, McLaren may still be looking to set a production car lap record at the daunting 12.9-mile circuit. Automakers will typically send a car out for a few recon laps before returning to the track at a later date for an actual record attempt, so perhaps we’ll see this Senna at the track again in the future.

The Senna just might be capable of beating the Aventador SVJ at the Nurburgring. It has more power than the Lamborghini and is also lighter, but the Aventador SVJ benefits from all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering. Both vehicles use Pirelli Trofeo R tires and both have active aerodynamics, though, so this may be a close contest.
The Senna also makes more downforce than the Aventador SVJ – 1,763 lbs (800 kg) to the Lamborghini’s 1,080 lbs (490 kg).
Time will tell if McLaren can beat Lamborghini around the Green Hell. For now, you can watch McLaren put in some test laps in the video above.
