Fiat Chrysler has teased the 2019 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth with a video of its raspy exhaust note.

It’s odd that FCA would choose to tease the 2019 124 Spider Abarth this way, as automakers typically only release teasers of all-new models. This makes us think that some changes could be in store for the 124 Abarth, chiefly a new, louder exhaust system. The press release for the teaser video, which is embedded above, consist of only the following sentence:

“‘Hear’ comes the new sound of the Italian-designed, fun-to-drive 2019 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth.”

We could also see FCA offering a carbon fiber hardtop on the convertible for 2019. The automaker presented the Abarth 124 GT at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, which features a removable carbon fiber hardtop roof. That exciting change came in addition to lightweight 17-inch OZ alloy wheels, gun metal grey mirror caps and a carbon fiber rear lip spoiler. While the Abarth 124 GT is for Europe only, it seems possible that FCA could bring a related version stateside for the 2019 model year.

We’ll have full details on the 2019 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth after it debuts next week.
