Aston Martin to Use Valhalla Name on New Supercar
Aston Martin Valhalla – that will allegedly be the name of the British automaker’s upcoming mid-engine hybrid supercar.
AutoGuide has dug up a trademark application filed by Aston Martin with the World Intellectual Property organization for ‘Valhalla’ to be used on “passenger cars and racing cars and parts and fittings therefor,” among other vehicle types.
Speaking to Australian publication Drive last year, Aston Martin chief creative officer Marek Reichman revealed the Valhalla name would likely be used on a forthcoming supercar. We can now confirm that Aston Martin has decided to go ahead with the plan after filing the trademark on October 12th, 2018.
Aston Martin released some details and a sketch (below) of the Valhalla supercar last month, but only referred to it as the ‘003’. At the time, it said the ‘003’ would undercut the 1,000+ hp Valkyrie in the automaker’s performance car lineup and will be better suited to road use thanks to a quieter, more comfortable ride and additional cargo space. It also revealed it will be “built around a lightweight structure” and powered by a turbocharged V6 hybrid engine. It’s expected to have performance levels comparable to the LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder.
The Valhalla name is directly related to the Valkyrie name. As per a Norse legend, a Valkyrie was a female figure that would choose which warriors in a battle would die, and which would live. If you were selected to die, the Valkyrie would fly you to the hall of the slain in Valhalla. Reichman explained how Aston Martin decided on these names when speaking to Drive last year.
“The mythology behind the name is perfect, because you are chosen to come to Valhalla,” he said. “For me, it is very much about being the chosen one, and everything tied into place as we knew we’d have to go through a choosing process too with our customers.”

AutoGuide also uncovered another future Aston Martin name, ‘Varekai’, earlier this year. It later came to light that the Varekai name will be used on Aston Martin’s forthcoming crossover, which was referred to as the DBX in concept form. Aston Martin is going in on these ‘V’ names in a big way, with Reichmann telling Drive that they have “a bunch more V names that we’ve thought of and haven’t used.”
The Aston Martin Valhalla, which is allegedly referred to internally as the ‘Son of Valkyrie’, is expected to arrive in 2021. It will be limited to just 500 units and will be built in both left- and right-hand drive configurations.
