Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster Debuts With 770 HP

Making 770 horsepower at 8,500 rpm, the new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster is as much a droptop as it is a litany of impressive figures.

  • 0-62 mph: 2.9 seconds
  • 0-124 mph: 8.8 seconds
  • 531 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm
  • 62-0 mph in 31 meters (101 ft)
  • Top speed 217 mph
  • 2.05 kg per hp

The Aventador SVJ Roadster manages that impressive power to weight ratio thanks to its extensive use of RTM carbon fiber. Along with the removable roof that weighs just 6 kg (13 lbs), the whole Roadster weighs just 50 kg (110 lbs) more than the coupe.

Math whizzes will know that all together, the SVJ Roadster weighs just 1,525 kg (3,362 lbs).

As per usual, Lamborghini has cited spaceships, “race motorbikes,” and jet fighters as inspiration for the SVJ Roadster. And, on that last score, they might not be talking nonsense.

Thanks to the SVJ’s active aero system, flaps within the car can push air at the big rear wing, causing it to stall, and reducing drag. That helps it get up to speed faster. That’s the kind of technology that helped the SVJ coupe cover the Nurburgring in just 6:44.9 seconds.

With all of the flaps closed, though, the SVJ Roadster has 40% more downforce than the regular Aventador Roadster, which helps it get around corners faster.

Meanwhile, the SVJ Roadster can be fitted with the stickiest of stick Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, which Lamborghini feels the need to remind are street legal in this case, lest you confuse them with racing tires.

Once in the car, you can pick your driving mode — Strada, Sport, or Corsa — or create your own Ego, giving new meaning (but also not really) to the phrase: taking an ego trip.

And it can be all yours for the low, low price of $573,966.
