The Volkswagen ID.5 Xcite Could Be A Preview Of Sporty EV VW's To Come

Would you like some sport with your EV? This VW concept might just be a preview.

As a sort of counterpart to the ID.Xtreme off-road EV concept based on the Volkswagen ID.4, a more on-road sports EV was also shown by the brand, a short while later. Dubbed the Volkswagen ID.5 Xcite, the coupe-like crossover looks ready for some on-road fun.

Underneath, the ID.5 Xcite started life as a regular Volkswagen ID.5. The ID.5 isn’t sold in North America, (at least, not yet anyway), but it is essentially a Volkswagen ID.4 with a coupe-like, sporty roofline. The ID.5 Xcite’s ID.5 GTX’s roots mean it has dual motors and AWD, for a total system output of 295 horsepower.

Robert Janssen (Chair of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Sachsen, centre) and Jens Rothe (Chairman of the General Works Council at Volkswagen Sachsen, 2nd from left) with apprentices and the project mentors.

From there, a team of 14 apprentices over the course of a year, turned the standard ID.5 GTX into the ID.5 Xcite concept. The exterior paint is a special satin mixture, cooked up with paint from both the Volkswagen and Lamborghini catalog. Custom 22-inch wheels fill the super wide wheel arches, which have been altered for a meaner look.

Inside, the interior is decked out with Alcantara galore, and a 2,000-watt sound system. In the back, an electric trunk-mounted skateboard can be used to ferry you to your destination, Tony Hawk Pro Skater style.

The likelihood that the ID.5 Xcite concept will be produced is much lower than the ID.Xtreme concept. Still, this one-off could be a preview of what a more hotted-up take on a VW electric car could be.
