2023 Kia EV6 Gains Huge $7,000 Price Jump, By Cutting Base Trim

The 2023 Kia EV6 got a pretty big price jump.

The Kia EV6’s pricing had been pretty competitive against cars like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, or even its sister model, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. But, now, the model’s got a pretty big price jump, now starting at $48,500; primarily because Kia killed the base trim.

Known as “Light” the Kia EV6’s former base trim originally started at $41,800, not including the $1,295 destination fee. Now, the new base trim is the “Wind” trim, which also got a $1,000 price increase, making the cheapest way to get in a Kia EV6, $48,500. It’s not a wanton price increase, the base Light trim came with a smaller battery, less range, and less power than the Wind trim. The Wind trim being standard fare means that all 2023 Kia EV6s will have a minimum of 310 miles (274 miles when equipped with AWD), with power coming from a 77-kilowatt-hour battery.

Still, an effective $7,000 price jump isn’t an easy pill to swallow. The EV6 doesn’t qualify for tax incentives under the inflation reduction act either, since the EV6 is made in South Korea. Meaning, for some buyers, the EV6 is now a much, much more expensive car.

Curiously, the EV6’s old base price was only about $1,500 more expensive than the new 2023 Kia Niro EV. Could the EV6’s larger base price be a way to incentivize buyers to opt for the Niro EV, over the EV6? Maybe.

Aside from pricing, there haven’t been any other announced changes for the 2023 Kia EV6.
