The next-generation VW Scirocco will be a sporty-looking EV with styling cues borrowed from the VW I.D. Concept, according to a new report.

An issue with the anti-lock braking system in more than 750,000 cars has led Volkswagen to issue a global recall.

With flagging sales and a cost-saving mission handed down from on high, the fate of the Volkswagen Scirocco and Beetle has long been the topic of speculation, but now there’s new evidence to suggest that they’re in danger of extinction.

It’s human nature to want what you can’t have. American car enthusiasts stare longingly across the Atlantic at all the cool and unusual products their European counterparts have access to.

A month ago we put the spotlight on VW’s Scirocco GT24 CNG Race Cars, announcing that they’ll be competing at the Nurburgring 24-hour race in the class for cars with alternative power. The race has come and gone and VW has made a solid statement with the sweep of the podium with a 1-2-3 finish.

Every time we set our eyes on the new VW Scirocco ( like at the Nitto Tires booth at the Tokyo Auto Salon), we were jealous to say the least that North America will never get this beauty. This decision was made in 2008 by Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen’s CEO, stating that the Scirocco would negatively affect GTI sales. The sad thing is, we feel that not bringing the Scirocco to America negatively affects overall VW sales. We believe there are plenty of enthusiasts out there that would purchase a Scirocco that wouldn’t even look at any other VW chassis.

Interestingly enough, Nitto Tires in Japan turned towards a VW for its main display vehicle.  The new VW Scirocco is definitely attractive in its own rights.  Sporting KW Suspension and displaying Nitto’s NT05 rubber, this Scirocco is one of the cleanest we’ve seen yet worldwide.
