Honda Adds Wireless Android Auto, Carplay To 2018-22 Accord

Honda will roll out a new dealer-installed software update that allows 2018-2022 model year Accords to run Android Auto and Apple Carplay wirelessly. It’s worth noting the sedan already features both projection software, albeit with a required wired connection. Honda, strangely enough, bills this as a “sustainability effort,” saying that the brand is doing this to “maximize the lifetime value of in-market Honda vehicles by offering upgrades and new digital services.”

Jay Joseph, VP of Sustainability & Business Development Division goes on to say that “enhancing the ownership experience and market value of Honda vehicles already in use is a key strategy in pursuit of our goal to have zero environmental impact by 2050.” It is doubtful anyone will see this as more than a more convenient way to use the two phone projection software, but Honda clearly sees greater value in it.

Regardless, any dealer will be able to install the software, which Honda will bill customers $112 for. The dealer will also tack a labor charge onto that, but given what should be a relatively quick installation, we’d expect the final figure to be not significantly more than the price of the upgrade itself. Moreover, Honda will update any qualifying Honda Certified Pre-Owned Accord with the software before sales. The brand hasn’t yet said when the service and update will be made available.

You're either very optimistic or naive about the dealer 'labor' for this. I'd guess they have a minimum charge that will at least double the cost. Hopefully that's not the case.
