Land Rover presented a check of over $1.5 million (£1 million) to the British Red Cross at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the British automaker is celebrating the ‘Journey of Discovery’ this weekend.

The ‘ Journey of Discovery‘ was a historic cross-continent trek from the United Kingdom to Beijing, China, driving more than 8,000 miles as it aimed to raise money for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to benefit a water and sanitation project in Uganda. It’s now clear that the automaker was able to hit its goal from its 50-day journey.

The journey ended up winding through over 10,000 miles of varied terrain, travelled through 13 countries with a mix of urban and off-road conditions. The one millionth Land Rover Discovery that made the trek is currently on display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, adding credence to its claim of being the “world’s most capable and versatile SUV.”

“We are grateful for Land Rover’s support which will enable us to reach many more vulnerable people in Uganda who are in need of clean water and sanitation. Uganda is one of the countries worst affected by a lack of safe water and although water supply is crucial, sanitation and hygiene are equally important. With Land Rover’s generous assistance, we will now be able to reach thousands of people in Uganda with these life-saving resources,” said Goli Ameri, under secretary general for humanitarian values and diplomacy of the IFRC.
