2015 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon Teased
General Motors is getting back into the small pickup market, and has revealed just a little bit of the new Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon.
Billed as “versatile and fuel-efficient alternatives to full-size pickups,” the introduction of these trucks will make General Motors the only company that competes in every single pickup truck segment from small trucks to full-size heavy duties.
What will power these small trucks remains a mystery, though a diesel engine is a likely option. Speaking with AutoGuide, a GM engineer admitted that diesel is coming to a non-HD truck, but wouldn’t go as far as to say whether it will be in the brand’s half-tons, or small trucks. The other likely powertrain is the new EcoTec3 V6, that makes 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque.

General Motors already sells the Colorado in worldwide markets, though the styling will no doubt change up when it arrives in North America. Expect it to lose some of the round bubbly edges in favor of a more rigid and square exterior look.
Production of these trucks will begin in 2014 at GM’s Wentzville, Mo., assembly center.
