Acura MDX, RLX Recalled for Faulty Emergency Braking
Acura announced a new recall today covering approximately 19,500 vehicles from the 2014 and 2015 model years.
Under it, MDX crossovers and RLX sedans equipped with Acura’s “Collision Mitigation Braking System” will be called back. The company said affected vehicles “may incorrectly determine that there is the potential for a forward collision if a vehicle detected ahead is traveling near a metallic structure.”
If that happens, the vehicle will apply its brakes unexpectedly and increase the risk of a crash with following traffic.
Acura said it isn’t aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defective safety systems. All MDX and RLX models from the 2014 and 2015 model year that are equipped with the technology are a part of the recall. Acura is asking owners with affected vehicles to schedule a service appointment at their dealer to have the defect corrected as soon as they receive notification in the mail.
This is the fourth recall to affect the 2014 MDX and the second for the 2015 model year. The announcement today also marks the fourth recall for the 2014 RLX and the second recall for the 2015 model year.
