Lexus has built the one thing everyone wanted from Back to the Future that wasn’t a time machine.

The Lexus Hoverboard is a real thing — the Japanese automaker has partnered with the world-leading experts in super conductive technology to create one of the most advanced Hoverboards yet. Unfortunately, the company was quick to say that the Lexus Hoverboard is a prototype and will not be for sale, but it proves the technology is possible and maybe one day, we’ll finally be Marty McFly.

By using magnetic levitation to achieve frictionless movement, the Lexus Hoverboard also features liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets. The design of the board itself is heavily inspired by Lexus vehicles with an iconic Lexus spindle grille signature shape and natural bamboo, which can be found in numerous Lexus interiors.

“At Lexus, we constantly challenge ourselves and our partners to push the boundaries of what is possible,” said Mark Templin, executive vice president, Lexus International. “That determination, combined with our passion and expertise for design and innovation, is what led us to take on the Hoverboard project. It’s the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination.”
