The 2015-2016 Mazda 3 is being recalled for a possible fire hazard.

Mazda North American Operations has announced that 14,406 Mazda3 sedans and hatchbacks are being recalled due to a fuel tank issue that can result in a fire risk or engine stalling. The issue is related to the stop-sale that occurred in early October, where a defect in the fuel shut-off valve may allow fuel to flow from the tank into the fuel-tank emissions system. Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to not drive their vehicles until it is repaired and Mazda will provide free rental cars to affected customers.

No injuries or accidents related to the issue have been reported and the affected vehicles were manufactured between May 21, 2015 to August 25, 2015. The recall will begin this month and dealers will inspect the vehicle’s fuel shut-off valve and will replace the fuel tank and charcoal emissions canister if necessary.

“If enough fuel enters the emission system, it may leak out onto the ground or result in an engine stall,” NHTSA said in its recall summary. “A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. An engine that stalls increases the risk of a crash.”
