McLaren’s bespoke division, MSO, has put together the 650S Can-Am, a modern day supercar inspired by race cars of the past.

While McLaren’s classic race cars used aluminum and mallite for lightweight construction, the 650S Can-Am is made up of a carbon fiber monocoque, a carbon fiber retractable hard top and a hood, airbake, front splitter, rear bumper, door blades and sill covers all made from the high strength lightweight material.

Unique forged alloy wheels with a gloss black finish are fit to the car, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and housing carbon ceramic brakes. A quad exhaust and new louvered front wings are also unique to the Can-Am model.

Three different color schemes will be available, Mars Red, Papaya Spark and Onyx Black, while a full race livery can also be had on the car. As you might expect from a supercar, the interior is wrapped in leather and Alcantara while carbon fiber is also visible throughout the cabin.

Power comes from the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 as the standard car, cranking out 641 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph takes just three seconds while the car’s top speed is limited at 204 mph.

McLaren is releasing the car to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the very first Can-Am race which was held in 1966 at Mont Tremblant, Quebec. The brand took five consecutive championships in the series from 1967 to 1971.

Just 50 units of the 650S Can-Am are going to be produced and deliveries will begin in Spring, 2016. Pricing in the U.S. starts at $334,500.
