Porsche is teasing something low and wide for the 2016 L.A. Auto Show.

And before you get excited hoping to see this machine on roads, we’re here to disappoint you. It’s the new Porsche 911 RSR, the company’s hardcore race car that competes in numerous endurance race series like the World Endurance Championship and WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The current RSR was first introduced for the 2013 season, so expect the one bowing in L.A. this week to be used for the 2017 race season.

Expect visual changes on the new Porsche 911 RSR to resemble the current production 911, but we won’t know whether rumors of Porsche switching to a mid-engine layout are true until the car debuts. In addition, the current RSR has a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six powerplant and there’s a possibility the new race car will use a turbocharged engine.

Check back with AutoGuide.com as we will be covering the 2016 L.A. Auto Show live from the Los Angeles Convention Center starting tomorrow.
