Android Auto, New Safety Tech Land In 2020 Toyota 4Runner
It’s now been roughly a decade since the Toyota 4Runner received a complete redesign, making it quite long-in-the-tooth by modern vehicle standards.
However, the fifth generation of Toyota’s mid-size SUV has evolved along the way, and for 2020, it will take another step forward with the introduction of new safety and convenience tech.
Toyota this month has announced that all 2020 4Runner SUVs will be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense P – a suite of select active safety features. The suite includes a forward collision mitigation system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. The lane departure alert includes a “sway warning system,” which watches for vehicle swerving within its travel lane, issuing an alert to the driver that they should rest up.
Additionally, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner boasts a redesigned instrument panel and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen at all trim levels. But the biggest change to the 4Runner’s infotainment system is more than skin-deep; new for 2020, Toyota’s rugged mid-size SUV features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility, making the 4Runner one of select few Toyotas to offer the Android connectivity system. A pair of USB ports have also been added for rear-seat passengers, allowing the whole fam to charge up their phones on longer excursions.
Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro
The 2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro gets all of the above, in addition to Smart Key with Push Button Start – also standard on SR5 Premium and TRD Off-Road Premium trims. Plus, a new TRD-branded cat-back exhaust system enhances the sound of the TRD Pro’s snarling V6 (although peak power output is unaffected), while the 4Runner Limited’s updated HVAC controls can now be found in the center stack.
Finally, Magnetic Gray Metallic has been added to the 2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro’s palette of available exterior hues, along with a new Army Green paint option. Super White and Midnight Black Metallic remain options.
The 2020 Toyota 4Runner starts at $36,020 in the U.S. before options and destination, while the TRD Pro carries a $49,765 base MSRP.
