Maserati Levante Mule Spied Testing

Maserati has been spied testing a new mule for its upcoming Levante SUV.

Last time we saw the Levante SUV testing, it was sporting a black body and this time around, the Italian automaker has been caught by AutoGuide.com‘s spy photographers testing a mule in Germany with a red body. Sharing the same platform as the Ghibli and Quattroporte, it’s no surprise to see that the mule is essentially a high-riding Ghibli with additional bodywork to mimic an SUV. Originally rumored to be built on a modified Jeep Grand Cherokee chassis, it’s clear that Maserati is definitely crossing that idea off the list.

Another benefit for using the same platform was the Ghibli and Quattroporte is that Maserati can share the same powerplants found in its sedan models. Expect the company’s Q4 all-wheel drive system to also make its way to the Levante when it debuts at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
