Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Debuts With Sharp Style

Mitsubishi has revealed the new Eclipse Cross, a compact SUV that will sit between the Outlander Sport (called the RVR in Canada) and standard Outlander.

Its distinct styling, with that sharply raked rear roofline, is the biggest difference between the Eclipse Cross and its other SUV counterparts. A new red exterior color, seen in the photos above, has been added to the palette while a new paint process results in a high-color saturation finish.

Inside, the dash features silver metal framing and a black/silver monotone color scheme, while a thin display audio setup and head-up display are both used. The Smartphone Link Display Audio system and a touchpad controller complete the infotainment setup in the new SUV, and, of course, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both supported.

Like many of Mitsubishi’s products, the Eclipse Cross will use the brand’s All-Wheel Control system to deliver power at all corners. New structural bonding and additional bracing has also resulted in more body rigidity.

Two engines have been announced for the new SUV, either a 1.5-liter turbocharged four cylinder mated to a CVT, or a 2.2-liter diesel. In North America, expect the small gas engine to be the only option.

The Eclipse Cross will be sold around the world and will hit most markets by early 2018. Its U.S. launch date it still unknown.
