Porsche Spied Using Mule to Test Next-Generation Turbo 911
Porsche is already developing the next-generation 911 Turbo.
We’ve already seen Porsche testing the 992-generation Carrera and Carrera S models, but while those prototypes were wearing production bodies, the German automaker is still using a 991-based mule for the new Turbo. It appears Porsche will widen the 992 Turbo quite a bit, based on the prototype seen here testing at the Nurburgring that’s wearing wider fenders on the stock body. If Porsche does decide to make the Turbo model even wider, expect to see larger wheels and tires filling up the fenders, which means better traction and even more grip. That also means a noticeable jump in power isn’t entirely out of the question.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS made its debut at E3 2017 during the Microsoft Xbox press conference, but the German automaker hasn’t announced official specs on it yet. It is rumored, however, that it has around 700 horsepower thanks to the addition of water injection for the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine. While that technology is a possibility for the next-gen Turbo model, there’s also a possibility that engine is getting retired to make way for a new, possibly smaller, engine.
Porsche purists can rest easy knowing the 911 Turbo won’t become electrified for the 992 generation – the automaker has ruled out an electrified 911 for the near future.
