Porsche’s highly anticipated response to the Tesla Model S, the Mission E electric sedan, has been spied testing for the first time.

These photos were taken just outside of Porsche’s Weissach facility in Germany. They show a few different lightly camouflaged Mission E prototypes that give us very good idea of what the production car will look like. If you were a fan of the 2015 Mission E concept then probably you’ll like the production version, which adopts many of the concept car’s styling cues in an expectedly toned down manner. Don’t mind the fake exhaust tips out back – that’s just Porsche’s attempt to trick onlookers.

The Mission E is rumored to have a lithium-ion battery pack that will enable a range of around 330 miles. It’s also said to sprint from 0-60 mph in around 3.5 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in under 12 seconds at about 125 mph. Porsche is thought to be a frontrunner in introducing 800V charging for EVs, which could shorten charge times over the current 400V systems used. If 800V charging does arrive on the Mission E, it could theoretically recharge 80 percent of its driving range in about 15 minutes.

Porsche has said the Mission E will be priced from $85,000, which puts it right in the middle of the Model S price bracket. It will arrive at Porsche dealers by the end of 2019, so look for the production version to make its debut late next year or at the beginning of 2019.

That test mule looks like a Panamera... it's got conventional door placement and B pillars. If that's what a production model is really going to look like then I'll pass on it. I want the suicide doors without the B pillars.
