The best selling midsized truck in America 13 years running gets plenty of updates for 2020, including one particularly wicked new color.

Toyota has released details about the 2020 Tacoma, and it looks to combine some of the latest tech with the same go anywhere, do anything attitude from previous Tacoma models. You will be able to customize the 2020 Toyota Tacoma up to 32 different ways, thanks to a variety of trims and package options. There are still two engine options to choose from, a standard four-cylinder and optional V6, and a six-speed automatic transmission standard. If you opt for the V6, there’s a six-speed manual available.

A New Look for 2020

Depending on the trim, most 2020 Toyota Tacomas will feature a brand new grille design, each trim design slightly different from the other. All trims will have a redesigned taillamp design, complimenting its fresh face, which also gains LED headlights standard for Limited and TRD models, plus LED bed lamps are available on any trim.

Tech Updates

Upgraded looks carry on into the interior, where a standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system adds Amazon Alexa compatibility, in addition to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. An 8-inch touchscreen is available on upgraded trims.

Toyota is carrying over the sporty SX trim from 2019, which blacks out the grille, fenders, headlight surrounds, 16-inch alloy wheels, and other trim pieces.

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma Limited now has LED headlights, new 18-inch alloy wheels, LED foglights and stylish LED daytime running lights. Double Cab versions feature the new Panoramic View Monitor, giving you a full 360-degree view around the Tacoma while backing up.

Upgraded TRD packages

Toyota Racing Development has some changes in store for fans of the Tacoma TRD line. 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD models get the same LED light treatment as the Limited trim and the 360-degree camera.

Enthusiast level TRD Pro models have a long list of trail-proven modifications, including FOX 2.5-inch TRD tuned shocks, TRD tuned springs with 1-inch lift, TRD aluminum front skid plate, Rigid Industries LED fog lights, Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain tires, Multi-Terrain Monitor, TRD Pro hood scoop and TRD cat-back exhaust.

The new 16-inch wheel design is cast aluminum and each wheel weighs 4.188 lbs less than the year before.

New colors for TRD Pros are Magnetic Grey and the eye-popping Army Green, bringing the total available to four.

A proven drivetrain

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma sits on a proven set of engines and transmissions. Standard Tacomas come equipped with a 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine making 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. You can upgrade to a 278 horsepower 3.5-litre V6 paired to a six-speed automatic, a familiar combination. V6 models can add an optional six-speed manual transmission.

2020 Tacoma models are available in either rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive configurations. All four-wheel-drive models feature a part-time system called 4WDemand, and either an automatic limited-slip differential or electronically controlled locking rear differential. The optional V6 tow package provides up to 6,800 pounds of tow capacity.

Other features include Toyota’s standard STAR safety system along with standard Toyota Safety Sense, which provides a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert and automatic high beams.
