Jaguar XFR and XKR
We first reported that Jaguar would display its new XFR at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, but the British marque had a surprise -or two – up its sleeve. Also unveiled was the new Jaguar XKR, a high-performance machine above and beyond the current model.

Both the XFR and XKR get new, more aggressive, aerodynamics as well as a shockingly powerful 510hp engine. The engine is an all-new 5.0-liter powerplant that has been supercharged and features direct injection technology. Torque is also impressive at 460 ft-lbs.

This new engine can propel the XFR to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and the XKR to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Thanks to direct injection technology, the XKR gets comparable fuel economy to the old 4.2-liter model with fewer emissions. The XFR also registers equal fuel economy to the standard supercharged 4.2-liter car with fewer emissions. Both vehicles feature a revised transmission that allows for smoother and faster shifts.

Also standard on both new R models is a dynamic suspension that can adapt up to 100 times per second. These two new models are a commitment by Jaguar to reinvigorate the R badge.

The company also plans to unveil an all new model later this year, which, rumor has it, is a coupe-styled luxury sedan along the lines of the CLS and Panamera. Expect an official reveal of that car at the Geneva Motor Show.

Jaguar & Land Rover to Get Cash Infusion From Tata

In this volatile economic environment, no auto manufacturer is safe from hard times, including Jaguar and Land Rover. According to an Automotive News/Reuters report, the two historic British car companies are facing a “cash crisis.” Parent company Tata Motors, the Indian auto manufacturer that recently purchased the luxury brands from Ford for $2.3 Billion, recently secured funding from the banks for “tens of millions” of dollars in aid. The news comes after Tata poured “hundreds of millions” of dollars into the struggling companies earlier this year.

Jaguar #1 in Sales Satisfaction, Says J.D. Power

Jaguar has once again been awarded the top spot in the J.D. Power & Associates Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) Study. After missing out for 2007, Jaguar’s return to the top of the list is the company’s fourth first-pace ranking in the past five years.

The Study, which has been run by J.D. Power for the past 22 years, is based on responses from 35,805 new-vehicle buyers who registered their vehicles in May 2008. The survey is based on five factors: the dealership facility, the sales staff, the paperwork and finance process, the delivery process and the vehicle price.

For 2008 Jaguar also placed first in the J.D. Power & Associates Customer Service Index (CSI) Study for the second year in a row.

2008 Jaguar XF Supercharged

There is a mystique surrounding the top of the line Supercharged model that makes it hard to remember what the other engine option is. For the record, the standard XF Luxury model comes with a 300hp V8, as does the Premium Luxury model. The V8 in the XF Supercharged, however, produces 420 hp and 408 ft-lbs of torque, which is a problem because you are tempted to think this is a sports sedan. But it is not.
