The current generation Maserati Quattroporte has outlived its planned life cycle and the overdue update is coming in the 2013 model year, sporting a turbocharged V8, and a supercharged V6.

Both engines will be produced by Ferrari, hand-built at the company’s plant in Maranello. When the car debuts in early 2013, it will sport the turbo V8 that makes 520 hp, followed by the supercharged V6 later in the year that will put out around 420 hp. Both engines will be paired to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

The next generation Quattroporte will be significantly lighter and more fuel-efficient when it finally debuts, helped by the addition of the V6 engine. Growth in size is also slated for the car, as a new smaller Maserati, the Levante, is stepping into the segment underneath the Quattroporte.
