No Plans for Ferrari IPO Says Chairman
Earlier this month, Italian exotic automaker Ferrari debuted its new F12 Berlinetta at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo was responsible for the unveiling of the F12 Berlinetta, and now he is once again denying reports of a Ferrari IPO.
Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Gets Michelin Super Sport Pilot Tires Standard
Considering that tires are the only part of a vehicle that’s actually in contact with the road surface, when you’ve got a car that makes 730 horsepower and is capable of dashing from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds as well as lapping the Fiorano test track in just 1 minute 23 seconds, then it better be shod in rubber that’s up to the job.
That’s why after successful partnerships in the past, notably with its 599 GTO and FF, Ferrari has decided to stick with Michelin for its latest hyper car sensation, the F12 Berlinetta, which will come with Super Sport Pilot rubber. Much like the F12, which is the quickest production Ferrari ever, the Michelin Super Sport Pilot, is also the quickest production tire ever (according to a 2010 independent test by TÜV SÜD Automotive where it trumped its five main competitors on the track).
According to Michelin, a key aspect of the Super Sport Pilot’s performance lies with the Twaron Belt, made from high-density fiber. Five times stronger than equivalent steel belts, yet considerably lighter, it enables the Super Sport Pilot to deliver superior stability at high speeds. Another clever feature is variable contact patch technology, which despite its name, ensures that during cornering the same amount of rubber remains in contact with the road surface, despite changes in the actual shape of the contact patch.
Along with these technological features that have proved their metal in road racing circles, the Super Sport Pilot also employs different rubber compounds for the inner and outer sides of the tread. On the outside, a harder Bi-compound elastomer is designed to promote maximum endurance, while on the inside, a softer Tri-compound enables the tire to break through the water barrier and adhere to the tarmac, promoting maximum grip during wet conditions. Ayrton Senna would no doubt be proud.
The Super Sport Pilot as installed on the F12 Berlinetta will be sized at 255/35ZR20 for the front wheels and 315/35/ZR20 for the rears.

Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione First Laps At Suzuka Circuit- Video
The Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione took its bow at the Bologna Motor Show in November, and shows off arguably the most track focused car that Ferrari produces.
The Evoluzione adds new styling to the Ferrari 599 which capatlizes on aerodynamics and produces up to 52 percent more downforce while cornering. A fresh exhaust system helps to boost the already monstrous amount of power by 40 horses for a total 740 hp out of the 6.0L V12 engine. Ferrari also managed to trim the cars overall weight down by 77 pounds, surprising when you consider the new large rear spoiler the 599XX Evo sports.
Watch the video below of the Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione doing some hot laps on a wet day at Japan’s Suzuka Circuit.
It's a Close Cut With Ferrari-Powered Hair Clippers
Thinking outside the branding box, Ferrari has collaborated on the most unexpected product – hair clippers.
The BaByliss Pro Volare X1 Clipper was designed in conjunction with the Ferrari Design Team. These clippers are powered by an ultra-efficient high-torque engine that helps cut two times faster on the first pass. To give you that ultra-suave cut, the BaByliss Pro Volare X1 Clipper is equipped with titanium-coated steel cutting blades, ensuring you look your best when you hit the clubs.
If you’re serious about your ‘do, you’ll want to get the BaByliss Pro Volare dryer. Designed for maximum airflow and minimum weight, the dryer offers low vibration and outputs 2,000 watts of power. There’s also a “turbo boost” button that gives you 15 percent more air velocity – how’s that for some serious hot air?
You really have to watch the promo after the jump. You wouldn’t know they were hawking a hair care product because they don’t mention the clippers until about 1:30 into it. We don’t think they meant it to be funny (come on, the video is titled “The Grand Prix of Grooming”), but we’re sure it’ll make you LOL.

Ferrari 620 GT Third Teaser Video Released
Ferrari‘s 620 GT has been anything but scarce in the media. With leaked images spreading across the internet last week and sketches giving a vivid picture before the Geneva debut, we’re more-or-less aware of the car ahead of time.
Despite that, the Italian automaker is still releasing teaser footage which probably falls short of the thrill last week’s leaked photos produced.
This is the third clip to hit the web, but don’t expect anything exciting. We get a few fleeting glimpses of the 620 being sculpted from clay and few design sketches played over dramatic music, but that’s it. Maybe we should all be congratulating Ferrari for staying strong and holding back.
We’ll be covering the official unveiling next week at the Geneva Auto Show, until then you can watch the video below.
Ron Howard Shares Behind the Scenes of 'Rush' F1 Movie Via Twitter [Video]
Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard is currently working on Rush, a movie depicting the fierce Formula 1 rivalry between racing driver James Hunt and Niki Lauda for the 1976 Driver’s Championship title. Starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers) as Hunt and Daniel Bruhl (Bourne Ultimatum, Inglourious Basterds) as Lauda, the film is currently being shot in Europe and is expected to reach theaters in 2013.
While a year is a long wait, thankfully Ron Howard has been sharing Rush‘s production progress via his Twitter account. Pictures tweeted include prep work on the set, Olivia Wilde in vintage Gucci, hospital sets, pit garage sets, shots of the Nürburgring, as well as the cars that will be used in the film. Among the movie cars is a gorgeous McLaren M23 replica.
Clearly enthusiastic about his new project, Ron Howard does not claim to be a Formula 1 fan. In fact, Howard only discovered its appeal from Peter Morgan’s script. “These are fascinating characters– ballsy, masculine guys. It was a very dangerous era in racing, and here are two absolute individuals at the height of their powers. It makes for great drama and very exciting action. I wasn’t a die-hard Formula 1 fan before I read Peter’s script, but I’ve been immersing myself in this world. I think the excitement I feel as a fresh convert may be infectious.”
Check out the many pictures Ron Howard has shared after the jump. Also, click on the video for an interview with Howard on Rush.

Disney for Adults: Pilot Your Dream Car at the Exotic Driving Experience
The latest attraction at Walt Disney World isn’t based on a cartoon character, nor is it made of animatronics. It will, however, bring out the kid in you – in an adult sort of way. And the best part? It’s shiny, Italian and can go 200 mph.
OK, so you don’t actually go 200 mph, but piloting an exotic sports car on a race track will easily have you testing the car’s capabilities – not to mention your own.
Designed as the ultimate attraction for adults at Disney, the Exotic Driving Experience can get you behind the wheel of a pricey German or Italian sports car starting at as little as just $199. The “ride” is an addition to the long-standing Richard Petty Driving Experience, and is held at the Walt Disney World Speedway – though only makes partial use of the banked tri-oval. Using one of those banked bends, the rest of the course makes use of a large-scale, though rather technical, slalom running through the track’s infield.
Ferrari 620 GT Teased Again – Video
The Ferrari 620 GT will bow to the public on February 29, in full form, and Ferrari is creating some more media buzz by releasing a new teaser photo and video.
Not much more is revealed in the photo, except for a small piece of the nose, which looks like the 599 with a bit of a deeper grill. The 620 GT will bow with a V12 under the hood, that is rumored to produce over 700 hp. The rear end of the car was caught in a spy photo, and the exhaust note was teased by Ferrari in a video, but as of yet the full car image and details have not leaked; unlike many other debuts lately.

Japanese Exotic Car Pile Up Becomes World's Most Expensive Automotive Graveyard [Video]
About two months ago we reported a collection of luxurious and exotic machines that were involved in a bizarre accident in Japan that claimed at least eight Ferraris, three Mercedes-Benzes, a Lamborghini, a Nissan Skyline and a Toyota Prius.
The exotic car crash occurred on the Chugoku Expressway out in the Yamaguchi Prefecture and fortunately only ten people were hospitalized with just minor injuries.
Now a video of the aftermath from that accident has surfaced and it appears that Japan is now home to at least two parking lots full of fine machines just sitting and rotting. This accident is now being dubbed “the world’s most expensive car pileup” with an estimated combined cost of $4-million in damage.

Ferrari FF Does Its Best Rally Car Impression [Video]
The Ferrari FF is gorgeous anywhere, but putting letting it loose in the middle of a snow-covered forest with Markku Alen behind the wheel? Roll the cameras, because something amazing is about to happen.
In possibly one of the most scenic backdrops you could capture on film, Ferrari put former World Rally Champion Markku Alen into a Ferrari FF to put their innovative 4RM four-wheel drive system to the test. The Finnish ice track specialist and winner of the 1978 FIA Cup for Drivers came away impressed with not only the 4RM system, but Ferrari’s latest 12-cylinder powerplant.
The 8.7-mile forested track had temperatures ranging from -22 to 5 degrees Fahrenheit and was packed with steep inclines and challenging corners. Clearly, this course gave Alen the opportunity to test the Ferrari FF’s capability to extremes, especially the car’s traction on surfaces with very little grip.

Crashed Ferrari Enzo Owner Planning 20 Car Return to Targa Newfoundland
Three months ago, Zahir Rana crashed into the Atlantic Ocean while racing the Targa Newfoundland Rally in his $2 million modified Ferrari Enzo. The owner of exotic car dealer ZR Auto, Zahir Rana emerged from the accident without a scratch while his Enzo suffered $100,000 in damages.
Then, thanks to a video of the crash uploaded to YouTube, Rana and his Ferrari became an internet sensation overnight, garnering more than a million views in its first week. Although he received criticism from those who mocked his ability to pilot a Ferrari as well as those that disapproved his expensive hobby, Rana answered his critics by shipping his Enzo back to Germany for repairs and for the fitment of a new, more powerful, 950-hp motor.
During an interview after the incident, Rana said, “It gave me another thing to live for.” In fact, Rana adds, “Gee, this was so much fun, I’m going to do it again. Gonna do bigger, better next time.”
Rana is well into laying the groundwork for his return to Targa Newfoundland next year. Preparing his refurbished Ferrari, Rana will be joined with a surprising number of fellow racers as well. Rana reveals, “Next year I’m going back again with 20 cars. All my friends and clients are now envious. They said, ‘oh we should have gone.’ It should be great. I’m looking forward to it.”

Eight Ferraris, Other Exotics Destroyed in Japan Car Crash [Video]
An bizarre accident over the weekend in Japan severely damaged 14 cars, eight of which were Ferraris. The other vehicles involved in the smash-up include three Mercedes-Benzes, a Lamborghini, a Nissan Skyline and a poor little Toyota Prius. According to the news report, a caravan of foreign car enthusiasts were heading from Hiroshima to Kyushu when one of the Ferrari drivers hit the median while trying to overtake a car on the wet, curved road.
Fortunately no one was seriously hurt in the crash, but it’s a sad sight to see all these exotics demolished the way they are. From what we can tell in the video, there were multiple F355s, F430s, an F360 and some form of an F512. Even worse, the accident shut down the road for six long hours as officials tried to determine exactly what happened.
