General Motors is preparing a massive product update on its Chevrolet lineup for 2013.

“13 is a big year for Chevrolet,” said GM spokesman Michael Albano. “You know some of them. There’s a lot of chatter about others and a couple will be complete surprises, which we’re thrilled about.”

The American automaker plans to release 13 new or redesigned Chevy models next year, including the redesigned Impala and the Silverado full-size pickup. In addition to the new 2014 Impala and Silverado, Chevy will offers a new Traverse crossover, a Cruze diesel, and an electric Spark. According to GM spokesman Michael Albano, Chevrolet will also have a couple of surprises up its sleeves for 2013.

Next year will be an important one for Chevrolet as GM continues to strengthen its passenger car sales. In the first nine months of the year, Chevy saw an 11-percent growth compared to last year.

Of course, GM is also putting emphasis on the younger drivers, targeting that market with its Cruze, Aveo, and Sonic models. According to GM, 30 percent of Sonic buyers are under 35, and 60 percent of Sonic buyers are trading in non-GM vehicles.
