Chrysler is continuing to test its Fiat spinoff, which will be sold as the 100 in North America.

The latest photos once again confirm that Chrysler is planning to sell a compact hatchback that will compete with the Ford Focus. Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne spoke last year about being optimistic that a compact hatchback will succeed in North America based on Ford’s track record.

An Alfa badge is blatantly visible on the rear, and the majority of the car looks like the Giulietta on which its based except for the horizontally-slatted Chrysler grille.

First shown during the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, the car didn’t have a name at the time. Engine options might likely include range-topping powerplants borrowed from the Dart. Those would include a 2.0- and 2.4-liter four cylinders with 160 and 186 hp.

The photos were taken by a member of enthusiast forum GMInsideNews.

Hard to tell what the front will truly look like in those photos, but as long as the final product is MUCH closer to what we see there vs. the front end of the Giulietta, I would be interested in that.
