A successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo has been rumored for several years now, and this might just be a prototype of the car, rumored to be called the Cabrera, out testing out in the wild.

Heavily camouflaged but unmistakably sporting Lamborghini’s styling, these spy photos were posted on Instagram and could be our first look at the Gallardo successor. The timing of these spy photos makes us wonder if Lamborghini could be unveiling a concept of its Cabrera at the upcoming 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The next-generation of the Italian automaker’s entry-level model is expected to get styling cues from the Sesto Elemento and the Aventador, while maintaining the familiar body lines of the Gallardo. Based by these photos, however, it appears that Lamborghini has given the rear of the Gallardo-successor some drastic styling changes.

As for what will power the exotic, it is expected that Lamborghini will use a new variant of its 5.2-liter V10 engine that will output around 600 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. It is also expected to go on a diet compared to the Gallardo, weighing in at around 3,300 pounds.
