Honda will begin taking orders for a production version of its adorable Urban EV Concept starting in early 2019.

The Japanese automaker first showed the retro-styled Urban EV Concept at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show last year. The two-door hatch is inspired by the Honda N600 and features clean lines, bug-eyed circular headlamps and an airy, futuristic cabin. Honda didn’t share details on the electric powertrain in Frankfurt, and it’s remaining mum on the matter for the foreseeable future.

However big the Urban EV’s battery is, or whatever kind of motor it has, Honda promises us this: it will be the automaker’s first series production EV for Europe. In a statement, Honda Europe senior vice president Philip Ross said: “A production version of this highly acclaimed concept will be introduced to Europe during late 2019, and in response to the positive feedback to this model, we expect to open order banks for the Urban EV during early 2019.”

Honda also showed an electric two-door coupe based on the Urban EV called the Sports EV last year. It’s not yet clear if the Sports EV has also been given the green light for production, but we sure hope so. What’s not to like about a neatly styled, retro-inspired Honda?
