An All-Electric Ferrari Isn't Arriving Anytime Soon: CEO
Current Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne has confirmed the Italian automaker won’t be making a fully-electric car until after 2022.
Speaking at Ferrari’s annual on April 13, Marchionne said an all-electric car isn’t relevant for Ferrari at the moment. Instead, the company will focus on electrifying its lineup by adding more gasoline-electric hybrids, with the first model debuting at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
That means a Ferrari EV isn’t in the company’s next business plan, which covers 2018 to 2022. This clarifies an earlier statement made by Marchionne at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, where he said that an EV could possibly be a part of the plan. He did say at the time that “if there is an electric supercar to be built, then Ferrari will be the first.”

It’s good news for Ferrari enthusiasts, but like everything else in the automotive world, plans could change. It wasn’t very long ago that Marchionne said someone would have to shoot him first before Ferrari made an SUV, and that’s now in development.
