Infiniti Q50 Hybrid Axed For 2019
Infiniti has killed off the last of its hybrid vehicles. The brand confirmed with Green Car Reports on Thursday the Q50 Hybrid sedan will not return for 2019, marking its death.
The end of the Q50 Hybrid follows the Q70 Hybrid earlier this summer and QX60 last year. It also leaves Infiniti without a single electrified car in its portfolio. The Q50 Hybrid featured a 3.5-liter V6 engine and electric motor to make a combined 360 horsepower and returned an EPA-estimated 29 MPG combined. All-wheel-drive models saw fuel efficiency slump to an estimated 28 mpg combined.
However, electrification won’t end with the Q50 Hybrid’s death. The Japanese luxury brand has laid out plans to launch a lineup of nearly all electrified cars by 2021. We’ll likely see Nissan and Infiniti’s e-Power find its way to future cars. e-Power is a hybrid-electric system that charges its battery via energy regeneration and an internal combustion engine. There’s no plug, while the engine acts purely as a generator.

Additionally, the Q Inspiration concept signaled the brand’s future range of electric cars coming by 2023. The latest concept previewing what to expect from future Infiniti electric cars came at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The brand unveiled the Prototype 10 concept, a speedster showcasing Infiniti’s electric car design direction. Infiniti’s goal is to combine performance and electric powertrains with a driver-focused approach.
