The 2023 Kia Niro EV Starts At $40,745; Only Comes In Two Trims

The 2023 Kia Niro EV is only a little more expensive than last year’s model.

Kia just revealed pricing levels for the fully-electric version of the Kia Niro; a base Kia Niro EV will cost a buyer $40,745, including the $1,295 destination fee. This time, the Kia Niro EV is only offered in two trims, the price leading Wind, and the upper trimmed Wave. The Wave trim will set a buyer back $45,745, including the destination fee. In all, the base Kia Niro EV is roughly $10,000 more expensive than the standard hybrid Niro.

Both trims are well equipped for the price and class, getting driver safety goodies like lane keep assist. Stepping up from the Wind to the Wave trim adds creature comforts like vegan leather seats and power seats for the driver and passenger. The Kia Niro EV is powered by a 201-horsepower front-mounted motor, good for a range of 253 miles.

On paper, the Kia Niro does look to be competitive, albeit there may be some caveats there. The similarly sized and similar range Chevrolet Bolt EUV can be had for an electrifyingly low $28,000. Also, unlike the Kia Niro EV, the Bolt EUV will be eligible for the inflation Reduction Act’s plug in tax credit next year, meaning its real-world transaction price may end up a lot cheaper than the electric Niro. Same story with the Volkswagen ID.4, which is priced similarly to the Kia Niro EV.

The Kia Niro EV will make its way to dealers in all 50 states by the end of this month.
