Volvo EX90 Makes Its North American Debut At CES 2023

The Volvo EX90 finally shows its sheet metal off in North America.

This year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is about to commence, bringing a plethora of debuts and North American firsts, including the all-new Volvo EX90. Volvo says the EX90’s debut at CES represents the culmination of several tech collaborations. The brand says the flagship, fully electric SUV is “a highly advanced computer on wheels.”

The EX90 features tech from Google, and Luminar – a LIDAR company. The two tech giants, alongside Geely and Volvo, integrated a number of new technologies to create a tech tour-de-force for its SUV flagship. Volvo has been somewhat mum on what the new tech is, only that it’ll be demonstrated later this week as CES goes on.

Underneath, the EX90 is a big EV SUV that sits at the top of the lineup, effectively replacing the XC90 as the brand’s most expensive, prestigious vehicle. It is electric only, using the same platform as the forthcoming Polestar 3 EV SUV.

In all, the tech on the EX90 is meant to make the SUV the safest vehicle Volvo has ever made. Not just in crash safety, but accident avoidance too. The EX90 is filled to the brim with sensors – one long-range lidar, 5 radars, 8 cameras, and 16 ultrasonic sensors, that Volvo says “don’t get tired or distracted,” and “are designed to respond and react when you’re just a fraction too late.”

The 2024 Volvo EX90 is ready for ordering, with deliveries reaching customers by Fall 2023.
