Ferrari has quietly responded to recent allegations that it unfairly preps its vehicles used by journalists – particularly when it comes to comparison articles. Rather than give respected auto journalist Chris Harris’s shocking article (published by Jalopnik) credibility though an official release, the Italian automaker responded in what amounts to rebuttal article written by The Telegraph‘s Andrew English.

The controversial looks and unconventional format of the FF hasn’t stopped Ferrari from selling every example they’re building this year.

The great American Le Mans Series begins this weekend at the wonderful 12 Hours of Sebring. And with all first races of the season, great anticipation brews for new race car debuts and at the top of everybody’s list is Risi Competizione’s Ferrari 458 GTC. Luckily for us, Risi Competizione brought along a photographer out on their test days and has finally reveals some photos of the car in race form to the world.

It’s amazing what some people will pay for vintage Ferraris. Take the case of a 1952 340 Mexico, chassis number 0224 AT. Previously owned by Larry Nicklin, it was a star attraction at the RM Amelia Island Auction on March 12.

The Ferrari FF went for a skiing holiday in the Italian Alps, and it got a lift via a Chinook helicopter. Who knew the FF was such an extreme-sports junkie?

Two Italian Air Force regiments provided CH-47 Chinook and Augusta 205 helicopters for the Ferrari FF to be hauled to the top of ski resort Plan de Corones. Journalists got a firsthand glimpse at the FF’s all-weather and grand touring capabilities, perfect for shuttling rich ski brats from hillock to trail and back to the lodge bar.

No word on whether Mountain Dew is interested in a cross-promotional campaign.

After debuting the car at the Geneva Auto Show last week, Ferrari has released yet another selection of images of its new FF model. Once again showcasing the car’s AWD system, but this time in the desert, rather than the snow.

Unveiled last week at the Geneva Auto Show, Ferrari has just released a video detailing the sophisticated AWD system used in its new FF model.

The 4RM system (as it’s called) delivers RWD driving dynamics in regular conditions, only sending power to the front wheels when slip is detected. To do this, Ferrari uses a Power Transfer Unit (PTU), that delivers torque directly from the crankshaft to each of the front wheels individually. As a result, power can be distributed individually between left and right sides on both the rear and front axle for maximum grip.

Weighing 50 percent less than a conventional AWD system, it helps keep the car’s overall curb weight down, while maintaining a weight distribution of 53/47.

Novitec Rosso is the first company to offer upgrades for Ferrari’s 599 GTO and it’s quite the complete project. With 888-hp (from 670-hp stock) and 636 ft-lbs of torque, Novitec clearly focused its attention on the powerplant and performance.

Ahead of its official public debut at the Geneva Auto Show next week, Ferrari has previewed its new FF grand touring exotic in Maranello.

According to reports, Ferrari is looking to adapt Fiat’s MultiAir technology for its own use. This system uses hydraulic actuators to change the setup of the vavletrain, and this can be done while on the move. So you can tune your engine to be run lean one minute for greater fuel-efficiency, or mean to get the maximum power output.

Famed Ferrari tuner Novitec Rosso will be debuting its rendition of the new 458 Italia at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Since the debut of Ferrari’s 458 Italia, several aftermarket manufacturers have revealed their own versions, but few can rival what Novitec Rosso brings to the table. With every exotic Ferrari model that’s been designed and manufactured, it’s a guarantee that Novitec finds a way to refine it towards automotive perfection. Their 458 Italia is no different, with an additional 39-hp (609-hp total) over stock, a staggered set of 21-inch/22-inch wheels and an aerodynamic kit thoroughly developed in the wind tunnel to maximize performance.

Novitec Rosso has taken Ferrari‘s front-engine California and outfitted it with a supercharged powerplant that brings performance to 606-hp (from 460-hp) and 444 ft-lbs of torque (from 357 ft-lbs) out of the 4.3L V8. The supercharged powerplant will be available from Novitec Rosso for the special Race 606 model and any standard California.

Testing exotic cars in the frozen north seems to be a trend right now. Lamborghini just released a teaser video of its new Aventador LP700-4 amid the snowbanks and now Ferrari has done the same, drawing attention to its own all-new AWD system.

The successor to the 612 Scaglietti, the FF maintains seating for four and even offers genuine cargo room thanks to the almost wagon-like design.

While it didn’t quite make it on to the radar of mainstream movie-goers, Sofia Coppola’s new film Somewhere featured a Ferrari 360 Modena as one of the film’s main props. The lack of dialogue and music coupled with the very long shots and dearth of quick cuts meant that the 360 is seen in frequent takes, cruising around Los Angeles, blasting up Mulholland drive and Route 101 with its engine sounds faithfully captured with the kind of fidelty unseen in most Hollywood productions.

Ferrari head Luca Cordero di Montezemolo denied reports that the company was planning to go public. “There are no current plans (to list the company). Perhaps in three, four or five years. There is no project now. Maybe there never will be,” he told Reuters.

Fast forward nearly 40 years since the first Stratos was produced, and a new Stratos has come among us. This one too has a Ferrari engine and even the underpinnings of the Ferrari F430 as its basis.

After Ford filed a legal injuction regarding Ferrari’s use of the name “F150” for their new Formula 1 car, the Italian supercar manufacturer has bowed to legal pressure and re-dubbed their entrant the “F150th Italia”.

While Ford’s ubiquitous pick-up truck, the F-150, could never be confused with the purpose built race car, evidently someone in Ferrari’s legal department thought it was a prudent move. The Ferrari was dubbed the “F150” in honor of the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification.

Nobody in their right mind could ever confuse the Ford F-150 pickup truck with the Ferrari F150 Formula 1 car. But Ford’s lawyers seem to disagree, and have asked a U.S. court for an injunction against Ferrari and their use of the name.

Following up on a supercar such as Ferrari’s Enzo is no easy task. The car is legend and its design is unmistakable. With a successor to the Enzo inevitable, many have envisioned what Ferrari may have in store as a follow up – including Hungarian artist Peter Simon. For our part, we hope he’s wrong.

Ferrari has once again released a smattering of photos of its new flagship, known tentatively as the FF or Fast Four. The name of course is a reference to the fact that this is the Prancing Horse’s first-ever AWD-equipped car.

This season the Scott Sharp-owned race team will be campaigning Ferrari’s new 458 GT.

With Mad Men setting off a slew of imitators producing 1960’s period pieces on network television, Ridley and Tony Scott, the two brothers collectively responsible for works like Top Gun and Gladiator, are apparently forging ahead with plans for a movie set in the 1960s, but with a motor racing theme.

Ferrari has revealed a selection of new photos of the new FF model – or should we say photo. Along with one pic of the car in silver (or the much-sexier sounding ‘Grigio Ferro Met. gery), the remainder of the photos show a camouflaged version of the car testing in the snow-covered roads of Sweden and Finland.

Ferrari has just announced the official replacement for its 612 Scaglietti model, calling the new FF a revolutionary vehicle. That it certainly is, defying convention with a “shooting brake” style body, and offering both AWD and the company’s HELE start-stop system.

The often-spied follow-up to Ferrari‘s 612 Scaglietti will make its debut on January 21st – but you won’t get to see it. The car’s unveiling is by invitation only, and will take place only at 6 A.M. Eastern Standard Time.

Going once, going twice, sold… to the Texas driver who wants to let everyone know he’s BIG TEX. Over a thousand Texans got in on the fast-paced bidding action last week at the first-ever auction of license plates in Texas.

Presented by My Plates, the Great Plate Auction took place at Cowboys Stadium last Thursday night and set new records to boot. About 33 plates went for a total of $138,650 (about $78,422.50 of that goes to the state general revenue fund). Bringing in the most money was FERRARI, which set the record for most expensive plate ever sold in Texas at $15,000. Following behind was COWBOYS ($11,500), GOHORNS ($10,500) and RANGERS ($10,000).

There was also a Bidder’s Choice plate available, where the winner could choose up to seven letters to put on their plate. Owning any Ferrari is something special. Owning a rare Ferrari like the Enzo is even more impressive. But a one-off special, built specifically for you, takes it to a level that can’t be measured.

James Glickenhaus should know, since he owns the only Ferrari P4/5 in the world, a car with the underpinnings of the Enzo and a body designed by Pininfarina on his request. The end result is both beautiful and functional.

China is increasingly becoming the market place for luxury brands, and Ferrari‘s banner year in the Chinese market will likely force the Italian supercar maker to shift more of its energy to the Far East as China and Hong Kong gobble up more and more cars.

It’s not every day that you get to see a bespoke Ferrari emerge through the design process, but 2011’s Baller Of The Year James Glickenhaus (we just awarded him that title on the spot) has been kind enough to share photos of his custom made Ferrari race car with the interior, in what might be the most expensive “build thread” ever.

While most of us relate bright pink luxury and exotic vehicles to Paris Hilton (or perhaps Barbie), the infamous heiress wasn’t the one ordering up this custom Ferrari California.

We’ve seen some crazy car builds in our time, but this one might top the list. SVK Customs based out of Sweden has been overhauling a Ferrari 550 GTR to one exotic machine. Just a brief overview will make any enthusiast drop their jaw: custom carbon fiber widebody kit, BMW powerplant and custom fabricated suspension components to give it some extreme steering angles for drifting – yes drifting.

In a recent interview Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo let slip that the exotic Italian automaker’s Geneva Auto Show debut will be, “a very different new Ferrari.” He then went on to comment that the vehicle will showcase Ferrari’s ability to adapt with the world – suggesting that it will in fact be some sort of ‘green’ model.

We at Autoguide have a theory that the best race car liveries are all for products that aren’t so great; cigarettes, vermouth, oil companies and cramped airlines with good food – such as the New Stratos, decked out in Alitalia livery.

First came the debut of the 458 Italia, Ferrari‘s replacement for the F430. Then came the Challenge version, a dedicated track machine for use in the Italian automaker’s gentleman driving series.

A warning: If you are reading this and you own a Ferrari, you probably enjoy driving it very much. Unless you also have $250,000 ready to spend, don’t go drive the new 458 Italia. Because if you do, you won’t like your car anymore.

Announced several months ago, Ferrari has finally given its 458 Challenge track car its official world premiere at the Bologna Motor Show.

Some things are just too precious to adorn the hood of a car. Like the Ferrari‘s iconic Prancing Horse, which is now available as a collectible you can display in your home or office.

A resident of Vancouver, British Columbia saw his Ferrari get auctioned off by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, after they seized the vehicle for excessive speed in September.

The McLaren MP4-12C will go on sale in the UK with a base price of £168,500, narrowly undercutting the Ferrari 458 Italia by £1,045. But due to new UK tax laws, the McLaren’s “on the road” price, including taxes and registration, will actually be £5 more than the 458 Italia.

Fenice Milano’s Fiat 500 La Dolce Vita wasn’t exactly our cup of tea, but it looks like their rendition of Ferrari‘s 458 Italia might be more acceptable. Despite a horrible rendering released by the company, the tuner looks to be on the right track with this tuning package.

Fiat released their list of retail outlets in the United States and Canada, and one interesting tidbit jumped out at us. While 99% of Fiat franchises are paired with Chrysler dealers, one company, the Remo Ferri Group of Automobiles, which operates two Ferrari locations in the Toronto area, is listed as a distributor.
