Setting an official time at the Nürburgring is a standard test for any car that would like to be considered a sports car, and Mini just released a video of its sportiest car, the John Cooper Works GP edition, setting its official lap time at the ‘Ring.

The car sets a time of 8:23, which is faster than both a BMW 335i Coupe and Lotus Exige S according to Wikipedia. Just 2,000 examples of the Mini Cooper JCW GP are being produced, making the car all the more desirable.

Final performance numbers are still not available on the car, but Mini says that it will easily beat what the MINI Cooper S with a full John Cooper Works package had on tap. Increasing the cars performance are some exclusive add-ons, including a full body aero kit including a front lip, side skirts, rear diffuser and a carbon fiber rear spoiler. It also gets an exclusive powertrain, new brakes and a special chassis meant for track handling.
