1977 Lotus Esprit '007 Submarine' Heading to RM Auctions

As if a standard Lotus Esprit crossing the auction block isn’t rare enough, this one is a definite one-of-a-kind after starring in the James Bond 007 flick The Spy Who Loved Me.

But it’s not the fact that it was featured in the film that makes it unique, but rather it’s a Lotus Esprit submarine built by Perry Submarines. Four electric submersible drive units were fitted to the Esprit’s retractable rear tray, each with steering vanes in the propeller stream.

This particular Lotus Esprit submarine has been mostly kept in storage until now, only being shown occasionally at several events since 1989. It will be heading to the RM Auctions in London in September without reserve.
