The 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee is being recalled for possible electrical fires.

In total, 164,000 SUVs are impacted by the recall with 99,436 located in the U.S. All affected vehicles are equipped with the optional power liftgate, which, according to the American automaker, is prone to water leaks that can lead to a potential electrical fire.

Jeep says moisture can enter the power-liftgate control module, causing a short circuit and increasing the risk of a fire. The company was first alerted to the issue when a vehicle fire was reported, although no injuries or accidents have been connected to the issue.

Parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is currently under investigation for how it has been handling its recalls, many of which have focused on various Jeep models over the recent years. NHTSA is holding an unprecedented public hearing on July 2 in Washington, D.C. with Administrator Mark Rosekind saying that the agency has “significant concerns” with how the automaker has been performing when it comes to recalls.
