‘Murican muscle will never go out of style, especially with the latest crop of performance machines from Detroit. They’re the best Motown has built in, well, ever.

And two of the finest are the all-new Shelby GT350 Mustang and Chevrolet’s Corvette Stingray. The former has been freshly foaled for the model year and features a screaming 5.2-liter engine derived from Dearborn’s already awesome Coyote V8. It delivers 526 naturally aspirated horses and 429 lb-ft of twist. The only gearbox available is a six-speed manual.

Chevy’s offering counters with a 6.2-liter small-block engine. It delivers a stout 455 horsepower along with more torque than the Shelby, 460 lb-ft to be precise. A seven-ratio manual or eight-gear automatic are offered.

Which of these red-white-and-blue coupes do you prefer? Compare them right here for more details about each.

Since I can take along three friends in the Stang (or all three of my dogs) it's Mustang for me!

It should be the Z06 instead because it going against a higher level GT350.

The Z06 starts at $80,000 without any options. It doesn't compete against a $50K Shelby GT350. I'd be surprised if there was any cross-shopping between a Z06 and a GT350. Considering the base Z06 MSRP is 60% higher than the GT350, if the two are considered competitors, that makes the GT350 an even more amazing bargain.
