Mitsubishi is hoping to turn its fortunes around in North American by introducing a new crossover.

Mitsubishi has unveiled the name for its new CUV as the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. The Eclipse was a popular sports coupe and convertible back in the day, and Cross is obviously short for crossover. Mitsubishi hasn’t sold the sporty Eclipse in North America since 2012, and many are hoping that the revival of the name means the crossover will have a sporty driving dynamics.

Mitsubishi is in dire need of products to bolster its North American lineup, and crossovers are what consumers want. The new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross should be bigger than the Outlander Sport (called the RVR in Canada) and smaller than the Outlander. The upcoming compact crossover will also adopt a “coupe SUV” style with a sloping roofline and muscular proportions.
