Mercedes-Benz might have accidentally let slip that the new A-Class is getting a plug-in hybrid variant.

Late last month the German automaker release official photos previewing the new A-Class interior, and users online have noticed something interesting, as reported by Carscoops. One of the images show on the instrument cluster what appears to be a battery/range meter, displaying “36 km” with a little over 25 percent of battery range depleted. That would mean fully charged the plug-in hybrid would offer around 50 kilometers (31 miles) of range.

Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz has replaced the original press photos with updated ones on its media site. Instead of showing a battery/range meter, the new photos now have a temperature gauge.

It would make sense for the new A-Class to be electrified, especially since Mercedes is making a strong push with its upcoming EQ sub-brand. The new CLS that debuted at the 2017 L.A. Auto Show takes advantage of a 48-volt electric starter/generator that offers a performance boost of 21 horsepower and 84 pound-feet of torque in short bursts.

The new A-Class hatchback is expected to make its debut sometime next year, possibly at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
