Next Chevy Bolt EV Reportedly Not Coming Until 2025

The current-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV may be on the market for quite some time, if new information from AutoForecast Solutions is correct.

The latest episode of Autoline first reported the firm’s alleged intel, which would give the Bolt EV, first introduced as a 2017 model, an 8-year-long lifecycle. When the second-generation Bolt EV does arrive, it will likely make use of General Motors’ dedicated electric-vehicle platform. The platform, which should arrive early next decade, will provide the basis for at least 11 other EVs.

In total, GM plans to bring 20 new electric cars to market by 2023.

Alongside the news of a 2025 introduction date for the next Bolt EV, the intel also suggested the Cruise AV will enter production that same year. The Cruise AV is GM’s self-driving car developed with Cruise Automation. The most recent iteration of the Cruise AV features no steering wheel or pedals, and the automaker wants to commercialize the vehicle as early as 2019. The timeline remains unchanged even after a self-driving Uber vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian last month in Arizona.

It seems unlikely the current Bolt EV will soldier on entirely unchanged in the meantime, but any substantial updates to the electric car’s running gear could be much further in the future.
