Watch the Mercedes EQ C Test in the Scorching Desert Heat
Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch its pure electric EQ C crossover in 2019.
The German automaker has released a video documenting a portion of the heat testing it has conducted for the EQ C. Mercedes took prototypes for the vehicle out to the Tabernas desert in Andalusia to test the EQ C’s electric powertrain in severe heat. This is just one portion of the extreme weather tests Mercedes will conduct with the EQ C – it will also test the vehicle in the extreme cold, snow and other inclement weather conditions before its release.
Rumors suggest the EQ C will feature a 300 kW rear motor, with all-wheel drive models featuring the same 300 kW rear motor in addition to a 90 or 150 kW front motor. Range should sit at around 310 miles and will be aided by a regenerative braking system. The EV will tap Mercedes’ EVA platform, which is an evolution of the MRA platform currently found in the C-Class, GLC and other products from the luxury brand.

Prices for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz EQ C are expected to start at $110,000. It should debut sometime later this year, either at the 2018 Paris Motor Show or the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, so we won’t have to wait much longer to get all the official details on this highly anticipated Tesla Model X competitor.
