This is the third-generation Alpina B7 to be offered in North America, and if you don’t know what that means, then maybe this car just isn’t for you. If you want to learn more, however, we’re happy to help.

Aplina is an automaker that specializes in special versions of BMWs and is considered an automaker in its own right, taking cars right off the factory to be finished and touched up at its own facility. The cars are extremely fast, sporty and feature custom accents or paint finishes that make them very highly sought after by BMW fanatics and car enthusiasts.

This Alpina B7 is based on the newly revealed 2020 BMW 7 Series but features a special engine from Alpina, a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. In comparison to the last B7, this model features a bit more torque in the lower half of the rev range, letting the sedan feel more responsive. Highway speeds come up in just 3.5 seconds (0.1 seconds faster than the last model) and the vehicle has a top speed of 205 MPH, up from 194.

The power is routed to all four wheels through a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Naturally, all the drivetrain components have been reinforced to be more durable when handling that much power.

The suspension and handling characteristics have also been updated, with a focus on both a luxury ride and sporty characteristics. The vehicle features two-axle air ride suspension to help manage body roll, as well as a road preview system that can scan the road ahead and pre-adjust the suspension for any rough patches. To help the large sedan feel a bit smaller, the B7 features rear wheel steering, which can adjust up to three degrees in cooperation with the front wheels for better high-speed stability, or against them for tighter turns. Brakes are massive with 4-piston fixed calipers are paired with 15.55 x 1.42 inch discs up front, while the rear brakes feature, floating calipers which are paired with larger 15.67 x 1.10-inch discs.

You can always point out an Alpina B7 thanks to the gorgeous multispoke 20- or 21-inch wheels, but also because of the unique front bumper with functional large air intakes. It blends well with the large wheels. Around back, there’s a new rear apron with integrated tailpipes and diffuser and vertical accents.

The interior is where you’ll find the plaque explaining the production number of the car, but more importantly, there’s a ton of Rolls-Royce quality interior bits, and a high-quality digital dashboard. The rear of the vehicle is especially luxurious with lounge seating and high-tech displays.

Since its based on the 7 Series, the Alpina B7 features many driver assistance and safety technology, which include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assistance and automatic braking.

It’s also worth pointing out that the B7 can be had with a very fetching shade of green or blue.

The price point for this luxury sedan is at least $141,700 plus $995 destination.
